Kestrel & Facet

Bespoke engagement rings

Made once, for one person.

Kestrel & Facet designs and makes engagement rings one at a time, in a small workshop, for the hand that will wear them.

Begin with a conversation

A brilliant-cut diamond turning in the dark, its facets breaking the light into colour.
A rough diamond crystal, frosted and grey, as a slab cleaves away along its grain.

I The stone

It begins rough.

Every stone starts as a crystal, frosted and dull, that gives nothing back. It is studied first, then cleaved along its grain.

Then it is cut, facet by facet, until light that enters the top is turned inside the stone and sent back out to the eye.

A circle of molten metal glowing orange as it cools, beneath the cut stone.

II The band

One continuous line.

The band begins as a single line of molten metal, drawn round until it meets itself.

Then it is forged, shaped and polished until nothing shows where it began or where it ended.

Four polished claws closing over the edge of the diamond as it settles into its setting.

III The setting

Held, never hidden.

Four claws rise from the band and fold over the edge of the stone.

Each is shaped to the facet it rests on: enough metal to hold the stone, and no more, so the light still reaches it from every side.

The finished ring: a round brilliant held by four claws on a plain polished band.

IV The ring

Yours, and no one else’s.

One stone, one band and four claws, made as a single piece for a single hand.

It is sized to that hand at a final fitting, and made to be worn every day.

The ring is the last thing made. The first is a conversation.

The bespoke process

From a conversation to a ring, in four steps.

  1. Consultation

It starts with a conversation: who the ring is for, how they live, and what they already wear. Bring a sketch, a photograph, or nothing at all.

  2. Design

The ring is drawn and modelled so you can see it from every side, at its real size, before anything is made.

  3. Making

The stone is chosen, the band is formed and the setting is built around the stone, at the bench, one ring at a time.

  4. Fitting

The finished ring is fitted on the hand it was made for, and adjusted until it sits exactly right.

Collection

Three rings to start from.

Every ring is made to order, so these are beginnings rather than stock: shapes to react to, borrow from or set aside.

The Solitaire: a round brilliant held by four claws on a softly rounded band of yellow metal.

Appointment

Begin with a conversation.

This is a concept. Kestrel & Facet is not a real business: there is no workshop to visit and no one to book with. The form here is switched off and sends nothing.
